invites applications for a
Director
that is committed to spectrUM’s mission of promoting a culture of learning and discovery for all. A successful director will excel in the following areas:
Program Leadership:
Steward spectrUM’s mission and strategic planning cycle
Oversee and collaborate with spectrUM’s leadership team to ensure exceptional quality in all areas of educational programming, including museum public hours, camps, field trips, educator professional development, exhibit development, special events, and mobile programming in Montana’s rural and tribal communities
Secure and oversee federal, state, and private foundation funding to develop and sustain programming and partnerships
Collaborate with UM faculty to implement research broader impacts, including developing exhibits and programming that engage the public with UM research and STEM role models
Sustainability:
Lead and oversee the implementation of spectrUM’s development strategy, including its annual Big Night fundraiser and other campaigns
Cultivate and maintain donor relationships
Ensure long-term financial sustainability by continuously monitoring and refining spectrUM’s programming, staffing, and development plans
Partnerships and Communications:
Engage spectrUM with the science center and science education fields through conference presentations, publications and partnerships with peer museums and organizations
Oversee engagement with spectrUM’s advisory board, advisory groups on the Flathead Reservation and in the Bitterroot, and Missoula Food Bank and Community Center
Steward spectrUM’s All Under One Roof partnerships (with Missoula Public Library, Families First, the UM Living Lab, MCAT, and KGFM)
The director will supervise two associate directors and will indirectly oversee all of spectrUM’s full-time, part-time, and student employees.
This position requires the incumbent to develop strong working knowledge of UM administrative systems as well as UM’s research and creative scholarship community.
Minimum Requirements:
Passion for sharing informal science experiences with diverse audiences
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Leadership experience, including experience supervising employees
Successful grant writing, fundraising, and budget management experience
Experience with donor engagement and public speaking
Experience and commitment to positively engaging audiences from diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of and commitment to best practices diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
Knowledge of and interest in helping fulfil Montana’s Indian Education for All constitutional mandate
Ability to work effectively as a team, with both staff and external partners
Exceptional project management skills and the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to locate in the Missoula area
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in education, science, or another relevant field
Experience collaborating effectively with partners in rural and tribal communities
Experience securing and maintaining Institutional Review Board approval for projects involving human subjects
Significant experience as an educator, formal or informal
