Addison Group is working with a large educational non-profit in downtown Washington DC looking for a Technical Project manager for a long-term Contract. This is slated to go all the way through December 2022!
The Project Manager is a member of the Enterprise Program Management Office in Technology business unit and reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). This position will support enterprise and departmental projects or a program of related projects by directly providing project management, business analysis, and/or change management services.
This position is responsible for the framework through which
staff have the processes, tools, training, and guidance they need to better select and execute technology projects.
The position will design the project goals and success markers, determine how success will be measured and tracked. The position will ensure the project remains on time and on budget and help motivate team members to hit their goals. Project Manager will also act as a liaison between the project team and upper level management. They will prepare and present progress reports and ensure the project is furthering organizational goals.
In support of delivering value directly through projects on a “micro” level and establishing a successful project portfolio management framework on a “macro” level, this position will manage project related vendors/consultants as directed.
Project Delivery
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of organization's goals, governance structures, rules, operations, and technology standards;
Understand business problems and opportunities in the context of what the organization's short-, medium-, and long-term needs and goals are;
Lead or otherwise support projects—or a program of related projects—by directly providing project management, business analysis, and/or change management services that cover some or all phases of a project, including inception, planning, requirements gathering, design and development, testing, training, implementation, close-out, and user adoption;
Develop and execute training and change management efforts related to project or technology rollouts.
Provide necessary support of implemented technology as directed by the office of the CIO.
Identify, manage, and resolve project issues and risks;
Liaise with project stakeholders and provide updates as needed;
Organize and maintain project-related documents and information;
Manage project budgets and variances to actuals and ensure projects are completed within budget and on time;
Manage external vendors to ensure project deliverables or contract requirements are fulfilled;
Stay abreast of and adapt industry standard best practices as they relate to project portfolio management, project management, business analysis, and change management; and
Stay abreast of technology trends, especially as they relate to a “digital workplace.”
Project Portfolio Management (20%)
Develop, maintain, and continually adapt a framework and central repository for managing BTech’s project portfolio;
Work with stakeholders—particularly the CIO and BTech unit managers—to identify, vet, and approve projects that align with strategic needs and goals;
Develop, maintain, and continually adapt a framework and central repository for common definitions, templates, processes, and tools that support more effective project management, business analysis, and change management;
Coordinate across the department to inform and train Business Tech staff on the above frameworks and related standards, processes and tools, in order to facilitate more effective delivery of products and services to the Institution;
Support other project owners in identifying project interdependencies, issues, and risks and, where needed, help facilitate appropriate next steps;
Facilitate portfolio status meetings and project status reporting; and
Provide updates and relevant communications to the various stakeholders.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Minimum 5 years relevant professional work experience in positions of increasing complexity.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.
Prior IT project portfolio management, business analysis, project management, and change management experience required.
Can demonstrate previous success in leading projects across internal stakeholders.
Experience in training, coaching, developing talent, and managing performance is desired
Requirements:
Must have a broad range of skills in areas including project portfolio management, business analysis, project management, and change management.
Must be able to plan, prioritize, and execute on both a strategic and tactical level.
Must be extremely organized and adept at coordinating large groups of diverse stakeholders and multiple projects.
Must be comfortable with new technology in general and expert at using the Office 365 platform (including administering collaboration apps like Teams and SharePoint) and the Microsoft Office Productivity Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Must be mature and able to work autonomously as well as make quick decisions and meet deadlines, with excellent communication, writing, and documentation skills.
Must be able to gain the trust and respect of customers and establish and maintain effective relationships.
Must be able to delegate responsibilities in a meaningful way.
Must possess
working knowledge of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge and the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Must be generally familiar with the opportunities and challenges of IT infrastructure, applications (including enterprise-wide business systems), and customer support.
Must be willing to
apply the principles of continuous improvement and innovation to her work and be able to develop many of the aforementioned skills, areas of knowledge, and mindsets in others.
