Job Summary
The Planning Services Senior Analyst takes a lead role within the Planning Services team to support Air, Ocean and Surface network planning strategies. The incumbent is responsible for managing strategic relationships within the enterprise relating to ongoing, multi-year programs relevant to a business unit's transportation network. This position deploys and uses decision support tools by leveraging advanced problem solving techniques and technology to provide thought leadership for improved network effectiveness across multiple phases. This role leads complex process development or improvement and involvement in strategic communication with stakeholders. The Planning Services Senior Analyst develops and enhances complex models and processes supporting UPS corporate vision to reduce transportation network cost, increase network efficiency and grow profitable revenue.
Responsibilities
Develops data design based on exploratory data analysis to meet stated business need
Identifies data requirements for the Enterprise Transportation Network Planning program to effectively leverage data, knowledge, and tools
Synthesizes insights and documents findings through clear and concise presentations and reports to inform stakeholders
Develops effective written and verbal communication strategies to gain consensus by clearly relaying key issues to UPS stakeholders
Identifies areas of improvement that have a high impact on the equipment planning to direct development efforts to the proper areas
Audits and tests new processes to verify they operate successfully and automates processes where appropriate to increase process efficiency and accuracy
Takes the initiative to understand business requirements and analyze data to justify the recommendations or identify the priorities
Manages the stakeholders’ expectation and develop stakeholder communication plan
Builds design and performs required experiments for parameter tuning and validation of the model
Coordinates with work groups to obtain necessary data and parameter settings
Solicits feedback from users to ensure changes are working
Works with team using agile processes to develop models
Leverages analytics and visualization tools to design and present information to drive fact-based decision making

Identifies current and future needs of the customer or business; understands how business needs dictate the project’s requirements, project direction, business objectives, and resource allocation and recommends solutions-design phase of the project
Specifies facts, research, and perspectives necessary to make projections; analyzes statistics/qualitative information within specified parameters and researches trends/conditions used to make projections
Leverages technological knowledge to achieve business objectives; adapts technological information, facts, or data to varying situations or groups; recommends changes to technological approach based upon knowledge of trends and best practices
Independently conducts standard analyses to identify problems in methods, processes, or workflow and interprets results of analyses
Identifies common problems with current work designs; specifies requirements for new work designs and modifies or adjusts existing work methods, processes, and flows to resolve operations failures
Designs and evaluates complex research studies (e.g., predictive or experimental) to address the immediate business and related problems; identifies cause/effect relationships within the data and their implications to the business
Understands business requirements or critical elements of a complex problem; develops creative, feasible, and integrated solutions that address multiple aspects of complex business problems
Advanced knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), Excel and experience with C#, C , Python, object-oriented programming concepts
Possesses excellent communication skills with ability to present to technical and business audiences
Master's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in a quantitative or computational field such as Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or Engineering
Minimum of 2 years' industry experience in a technical role
Understands Operations Research concepts and possesses experience with Gurobi
Experience working in transportation or logistics industry
Experience with Project Management
