The Strategic Portfolio Lead ensures Humana's Primary Care Organization (PCO)'s strategic portfolio reflects an ambitious, yet achievable agenda to build market-differentiation capabilities and drive sustainable growth. This leader will leverage both visual and written forms of communication, have experience in story lining for effective content and presentation development, particularly for executive- and board-level audiences.
The position's major responsibility is developing and directing the systems and processes that ensure strategic management of PCO's portfolio of significant and priority work. This role serves as a strategic partner to the PCO leadership team, and helps drive strategic alignment to portfolio priorities and critical functional initiatives. This role will manage and govern the PCO's portfolio of strategic initiatives with and through leaders across the organization. They will work cross-functionally with other PCO leaders, to help distill the organization's strategic priorities into specific strategic initiatives that helps us attain our organizational goals. They will do so through collaborative leadership in the areas of strategy, planning, road-mapping, prioritization, tracking, across the organization. This role supports nimble strategic planning efforts, and addresses risks and barriers across the system and portfolio. The successful candidate will gain an in-depth understanding of the PCO's ecosystem of people, processes, and tools, including all business functions and value streams they support. They will be directly responsible for running and enhancing Portfolio Management capabilities. An integral part of the PCO's success, this role reports into the PCO's strategy team.
This role also leads critical strategic narrative creation the PCO, developing compelling visual presentations for high level executive and board audiences. They logically structure content in a digestible, memorable way that enables quick understanding and drives to decision making and action. They shine a light on the PCO's future direction and current achievements.
Key Activities
Create and maintain cross-departmental relationships to enable leadership success
Align PCO strategy portfolio with market opportunities and optimize overall portfolio value
Leads the annual strategic planning process; Partner to shape portfolio priorities and develop trade-off scenarios for annual and long-range planning exercises
Act as a go-to-person for different collaborators to define and continuously review the overall portfolio strategy
Optimize Leadership Team meetings by framing and facilitating strategic discussions to help to drive alignment and decision making
Recognize and track strategic interdependencies across change programs within and external to the portfolio.
Identify and monitor portfolio risks (threats and opportunities), planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues impacting the portfolio.
Communicate portfolio status and priorities, highlight risks and resource gaps to be addressed
Build board- and executive-level strategic narratives with clear visuals

Previous experience in a Strategic Planning role, driving the creation and maintenance of a strategic portfolio
Excellent collaboration, organizational and leadership abilities
Executive presence; demonstrated experience in managing upward among senior leadership; demonstrated skill in challenging senior leaders in the context of strategic discussions in relation to market and portfolio data.
Experience in collaborating and achieving results in a highly matrixed, complex organization; ability to lead and influence without authority through formal channels and informal network
Experience ensuring engagement and alignment of stakeholders involved or impacted in the ongoing planning, scoping and portfolio management functions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts and build teams.
Ability to implement change in a positive, sensitive and forward- thinking manner
Excellent written and oral communications including excellent presentation skills
Demonstrable ability to listen to multiple stakeholders with varied interests, reflect upon feedback and respond productively.
Ability to use a variety of communication tools and techniques to present complex ideas to senior leaders, anticipate the potential objections and address stakeholder concerns to ensure alignment and harmonization.
Highly engaged and execution oriented
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
A minimum of two years experience in program management
A minimum of two years experience in strategic planning
A minimum of three years experience in a role working with and supporting senior leadership.
Experience working in a highly matrixed organization and communicating with high-level leaders and stakeholders, specifically managing upward among senior leadership
Excellent communication, presentation, and internal personal skills to include the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts and build teams
Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or equivalent preferred
Program Management Professional (PGMP) Certification preferred
Experience in Strategic Portfolio Management

Work Days/Hours: Monday - Friday; Eastern Standard Time
