invites applications for a
Project Manager
to provide oversight of the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Driving Change
(HHMI DC) initiative operations and communications. The Project Manager will help lead the initiative at UM in fostering lasting culture change so that students from all backgrounds, particularly those from our Indigenous communities, will excel in STEM.
The Project Manager’s duties will comprise day-to-day program administration which includes managing program activities, timelines, budgets, and logistics. The Project Manager will work collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty and staff across the university and within Montana’s tribal communities on facilitating the success of the initiative. The incumbent will report to the Project Director (PD) of the HHMI DC.
Essential duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
Collaborating closely with the HHMI to develop and sustain strong working relationships with the HHMI administrative community.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of funding regulations and compliance, grant budgeting, and accounting.
Collaborating closely with the PD and the HHMI Leadership Team to oversee HHMI DC operations and activities.
Executing all programmatic functions in the absence or the PD.
Working with UM faculty, staff, administrators, and state tribal community members.
Managing budget and ensuring spending complies with HHMI’s regulations and is kept within budget parameters.
Hiring staff and/or students at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. needed for the project.
Monitoring and tracking program activities and progress of participants, including faculty, staff, and students, and communicating with the HHMI Leadership Team.
Working collaboratively with HHMI Leadership Team to fulfill annual project reporting requirements for HHMI including fiscal reports.
Working closely with HHMI Leadership Team and Project Advisory Board on assessment and evaluation-related activities.
Creating written reports communicating project progress towards stated goals and objectives for internal and external use, including the Project Advisory Board.
Developing communications content for public-oriented newsletters and external engagement outlets as needed.
The Project Manager has a high degree of independence in establishing priorities and executing the administrative affairs and responsibilities of the HHMI DC project. The Project Manager will supervise other staff or students hired to fulfill the programs goals and objectives. The incumbent must have the experience, background, and capacity to exercise a high level of discretion and judgement over administrative and operational affairs.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Salary for this position is $45,000-$52,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualification
Bachelor degree or 4 years of experience in program or project management.
Highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Established leadership and management skills and the ability to oversee and guide complex, challenging tasks.
Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of word-processing programs, spreadsheets, visual communications.
Ability to perform complex tasks while often having to prioritize multiple projects.
Work experience indicative of abilities to prioritize, manage time to meet deadlines, and multi-task.
Demonstrate a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently.
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide-ranging group of individuals and organizations.
Knowledge and or experience working with diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a higher education institution.
Experience working with Indigenous communities.
