Shipping and Maritime is Shell's centre of expertise for Shipping and Maritime matters. It provides commercial, ship management and technology services and is responsible for ensuring that all our global maritime activities are managed safely.

From the Rotterdam office we support downstream businesses with Maritime Operational Assurance, Maritime Operational Support and Project support to maritime related projects in Europe and Africa (EUAF)., Our focus lies on safety, efficiency and decarbonization.

What’s the role?

The Maritime Project Manager provides project management for maritime projects managed by Shipping & Maritime EUAF and delivers maritime expertise and support to maritime related projects in the region.

The purpose of the Maritime Project Manager role is to lead and support projects on scope, timeliness, deliveries, resources and effectiveness. At the same time protecting the business from Maritime Risks and ensuring Shell standards are kept.

The Maritime Project Manager represent Shell’s interest within relevant regional industry associations, committees and working groups, focused on Maritime efficiency, digitalization and decarbonization.

The Maritime Project Manager is the source of project skills in the regional team and the source of maritime project expertise for business leaders.

Accountabilities are (but not limited to):


Lead complex maritime projects in EUAF region, using CI, project management, process design, change management and digitalization toolkit to deliver optimal outcomes and to ensure changes are sustained and embedded. This will require understanding of maritime operational and commercial drivers.
Define project objectives and identify the boundaries within which the project will be executed and deliver a road map set up with risk-based decisions to be made with the right pace and quality.
Support global Shipping and Maritime digitalization and decarbonization initiatives with expert project knowledge.
Support regional business led maritime projects with maritime knowledge.
Drive the agenda for Maritime Digitalization and Decarbonization programs for Shipping & Maritime EUAF.
Ownership of the Shipping & Maritime Regional Value program.
Ownership of the Shipping & Maritime EUAF SharePoint.
To develop project skills in Shipping and Maritime EUAF.
Ownership of the Shipping & Maritime EUAF PM toolsets.
Develop and monitor regional maritime performance metrics.
Take part in external networks and industry associations, committees/working groups, focused on Maritime efficiency, digitalization and decarbonization.
Advocate to businesses to utilise the Maritime Technical Functions disciplines for Maritime Design Engineering, Maritime Fleet Operations and Maritime Operational Assurance.


Key Challenges:


Implementation of digital initiatives to raise maritime efficiency in the EUAF region.
Driving the energy transition through decarbonization in shipping initiatives in EUAF region.
Provide project management skills, tools and coaching for the Shipping & Maritime EUAF team.
Internal and external stakeholder management ensuring connectivity to relevant maritime projects.


What we need from you


Bachelor’s or master’s degree with preferable experience in maritime and/or shipping projects.
Knowledge of shipping operations, ship/shore interface management and maritime transportation of hydrocarbons in bulk in seagoing vessels.
Skilled in Project Management processes and standards.
Skilled in managing strategic, front-end process and project execution.
Experienced with processes and management systems managing risk regarding shipping operations.
Skilled in communication with a variety of stakeholders at all levels in the organization to deliver results.
Skilled in problem solving and root cause analysis.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Experience in deploying new technologies is preferred.
Self-motivated, mature professional with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Be a self-learner (learner mindset behaviour) and have enthusiasm for improving own skill set to stay current with industry and market trends.
Solid track record across core leadership behaviours.
Good communicator (both written and oral) in English is essential for this role. German and/or French preferred.
