The Automation Methods and Optimization team is a start-up team at Tyson Foods that is responsible for identifying automation and process optimization opportunities, performing financial modeling, driving the automation roadmap, and executing automation projects. We will also partner across the enterprise to define and facilitate a governance model to ensure we leverage Tyson's full scale as a Fortune 100 company as we engage external partners and suppliers for automation tech and services, simplify our automation solution catalog, and help streamline supportability and solution maintenance.
The Director of Automation PMO and Planning will lead one of the teams within this new organization and will play a critical role in helping break ground on new processes, define internal partnerships, and standard approaches for new automation demand tracking and impact analysis (e.g. financial, safety, sustainability, quality). You will also own creation and management of the automation roadmap, and the overall process and methods for moving through the automation solution lifecycle: Idea to Proof of Concept to Pilot to Enterprise Ready and Scale.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the entire portfolio of automation projects that span all lines of the Tyson’ business
Lead overall Budget/Spend tracking and controls
Partner across IT, Engineering, Business Ops, Procurement, Finance, and other functions to define standard approaches, roles and responsibilities, tools, budgets, and documentation for moving from automation possibilities to POC, Pilot, and eventually Scaling a solution across the enterprise
Help define improved enterprise wide PMO practices in partnership with other functions, processes, and governance and lead the resource interlock with other PMO teams (including process, tools, governance, interlocks, etc.)
Lead your team by clearly defining a vision, setting expectations and responsibilities, providing effective performance coaching, and inspiring your team members to grow and meet their full potential in their current roles and careers.
Define standard approaches for financially modeling new opportunities as a key consideration in prioritization
Participate in or oversee and drive feasibility studies, vendor selections and proposals for evaluation by key stakeholders
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field
10 years of experience working in roles related to project management with experience having managed project management offices (PMO) and significant budget and planning experience
Significant experience managing engineering projects in a manufacturing environment
PMI PMP Certified and/or Certified Scrum Master
Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is a plus
Expert on standard project management tools such as MS Project, Smartsheet, Scrum/Agile tools (e.g. JIRA), Project Planning tools (e.g. Planisware), etc.
Hands-on experience in SDLC Methodologies, Agile, SCRUM, SDLC / Waterfall
Excellent skills in standard computer software including spreadsheet and presentation software
Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to operate in complex situations, break them down, and work with others to define the path out
Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products
Proficient in the use of process mapping software and tools (mind-mapping tools, Visio, etc.)
Ability to clearly “tell the story” and tailor your messaging to partners, leadership, and stakeholders including executive levels of leadership
Experience having worked in ambiguous environments where you have helped bring organization and predictability through the use of processes, standards, and governance
Proven ability to mentor and develop team members to grow their impact on the organization
Build strong relationships with leadership, peers, and partners in order to collectively deliver on our overall organizational strategies.
Significant experience in process creation and optimization as well as governance and controls
Understand interdependencies between engineering, technology and operations
Excellent leadership, communication (written, verbal and presentation) and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands
