The Senior Engineer - Projects is firstly accountable for delivery of assigned Geismar capital and expense projects ranging from
He/she will be a core member of Geismar’s Site Project Improvement Plan, monitoring and reporting progress as well as carrying a share of own action items as a team member. The goal of the Site Project Improvement Plan is to drive site project reliability and results to IPA’s Top Quintile by 4/1/2021.
As an experienced Project Manager, this individual will serve as a mentor in Projects for less experienced staff.
Accountabilities;
Has the primary responsibility for execution of Downstream Capital (and Expense) Projects from front end development to detailed design, construction, and startup in accordance with Shell’s project execution work process.
Is accountable for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within approved budgets, and meeting all project objectives.
Manages multiple simultaneous projects with competing priorities in various execution phases.
Develops project scope in collaboration with Business, Operations, process engineering and discipline representatives.
Is accountable for ensuring timely engagement of the proper technical authorities for approval of project scope and design.
Oversees engineering execution utilizing either on-site design staff or local Engineering companies.
Works with Project Controls to develop project cost estimates and schedules and to manage and forecast budgets and schedules. Tracks KPIs as a tool for project management, and reports status to stakeholders.
Works with site Contracting and Procurement to develop/implement a procurement strategy for each project.
Works with environmental to ensure permitting strategy/compliance.
Works with internal and external benchmarking to evaluate project cost competitiveness, readiness to proceed, and opportunities for improvement.
Works with construction to develop robust construction management plans.
Coordinates personnel and Contractors to assure that field activities are completed safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with the design requirements. Is an active and visible presence during field construction to keep the focus on Safety.
Provides technical support during start-up, supports training activities and assures documentation and knowledge transfer.
Provides appropriate record documentation to site Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Project files, and other site records.
Financially closes project accounts in a timely manner after ensuring that all costs have been properly captured.
​As a peer team member joining an established, experienced team & responsible for inspiring / motivating, leading without authority, the successful candidate must take a positive, collaborative approach to identifying areas for improvement of existing work practices.
In addition, success in this role will require “coaching upward” of site leadership and stakeholders on behaviors and support required of them to support successful delivery of Geismar site projects.

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or Construction Management.
At least seven (7) years of practical work experience with Project Management.
PMI PMP certificate is a plus.
Experience in managing EPCM contracts is an advantage
Comprehensive practical working knowledge of refinery or chemical manufacturing plant processes, equipment, industry standards and general project execution procedures required.
Demonstrated capabilities in identifying continuous improvement and implementing innovative solutions for the betterment of Downstream Brownfield Project Delivery Systems..
