SUMMARY
Bering Straits Development Company, LLC, a subsidiary of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is currently seeking a qualified Alaska Science Support Manager for the Arctic Research Support and Logistics Services in Fairbanks, AK. This is a senior level position that possesses a variety of technical skills related to the planning, coordination, and implementation of logistics and support for Arctic science projects in Alaska. You will use your tactical skills and influence to manage relationships with the NSF, principal investigators, local government agencies, and local/regional stakeholders to deliver high quality support for the program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are

Works with Science Planning Manager and Operations Manager to coordinate Alaska operations and science projects.
Provides direction to Alaska science planning and operations staff.
Provides expertise in field logistics to assist Science Planners and other stakeholders.
Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others. May assign and review work to ensure accuracy, thoroughness and timeliness.
Understands and applies the principles of risk management to project work. Serves as a technical resource for project delivery.
As a project manager, able to manage mid-size projects.
May lead development of technical approaches in procurement.
Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of people, materials and services for completion of projects
Work with scientists and researchers to manage changes in science support due to scope, weather, mechanical difficulties, and other factors.
Work with researchers to define requirements and develop support plans.
Manage a budget for science operations.
Oversee program logistics activities in Alaska.
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
Required (Minimum) Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in applied science, logistics, or related field.
Five (5) years’ experience in the project management field.  
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Ability to travel to remote field sites and other locations for work assignments for one to two week periods throughout the calendar year.
Ability to utilize lodging and meal services that are typical of remote and austere work environments.
Preferred
Master’s Degree in applied science, logistics, or related field.
Ten (10) years’ of experience in the project management field.
Experience managing science field projects.
Familiarity with logistics systems.
Experience with managing and coordinator air support vendors.
Work experience in remote and cold environments.
Commutable distance from the Fairbanks, AK office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required. Travel is required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Hires and supervises direct reports.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations. Must be able to pass NSF required medical and dental check and drug screen.
