Summary/Scope:

The Sr. Director, Project Management Lead is a global leadership role based in Summit, NJ, reporting into the Executive Director, Head of Business Capabilities and Innovation (BCI) and Chief of Staff. The Sr. Director, Project Management leads the Project Management Office (PMO), a sub-function within BCI; a division of Worldwide Patient Safety (WWPS).

The Sr. Director of Project Management applies a combination of life sciences strategy, leadership, and managerial experience to identify opportunities and drive successful execution of projects across WWPS. This person serves as an internal expert consultant with respect to project t execution as well as coaches/leads a team of project managers and contract management resources.

Additionally, in conjunction with the leaders across BCI, develops the overall innovation and capabilities strategy for WWPS and develops, manages, and oversees plans for execution of programs aligned to this strategy. These programs include evolving and adopting new technologies, methods and business processes across WWPS. Utilizing their understanding of business needs, financial planning and the healthcare technology landscape, the individual enables BCI to develop, lead, and execute initiatives which continually evolve the business of safety science.

The Sr. Director, Project Management oversees the organization responsible for planning, development, implementation and successful execution of programs aligned to the mission and vision of WWPS. This individual will be responsible for leading a new team within BCI, establishing process and procedure for successful execution of projects while simultaneously ensuring continuity of support for initiatives currently in-flight. Additionally, the Sr. Director will represent BCI and WWPS across BMS and serve on cross-industry initiatives, as needed.

The Roles and Responsibilities of the Sr. Director, Project Management Lead include, but are not limited to, the following:


Develops strategy and operating model for the Project Management Office, BCI.
With BCI leadership, contributes to the BCI strategy for WWPS. Develops, oversees, and directs programs related to the execution of this strategy.
As a member of the BCI leadership team, evaluates and prioritizes capability and innovation initiatives.
Manages staff of the PMO as well as contracted services supporting project enablement.
Mentors more junior staff as well as other project teams in appropriate project management approaches, methods, and keys to success.
Is externally engaged and knowledgeable of changes with international guidance and regulation impacting PMO initiatives.
Strong collaborator with teams within WWPs and across BMS to drive innovation and capabilities projects to successful completion.
Leads or co-leads the development of business plans, capital appropriation requests, and business cases for initiatives under the direction of PMO.
Responsible for decisions regarding prioritization, resource allocation, and budget for the PMO.
Anticipate obstacles and develop contingency plans to address them; taking necessary corrective actions to keep program on schedule
Use experience and expertise to innovate, challenge assumptions and invent practices when necessary
Represent the PMO confidently in interactions with key internal and external stakeholders
Identify and manage PMO team KPIs as well as KPIs for projects and programs under management; measure quality and opportunities for improvement
In conjunction with the Office of Chief of Staff, responsible for financial planning for projects and initiatives across WWPS.


Qualifications:

Skills/Knowledge Required:


Master's level degree (or Bachelor's Degree with relevant experience) in life sciences, business or a combination of relevant education or professional experience
Minimum of twelve (12) years project management experience. Project Management Certification
Minimum eight (12) years pharmaceutical/biotechnology experience
Minimum of 4 years people management experience
Minimum of 4 years executing projects and programs in a global safety organization preferred
Experience creating and leading an organization within a pharmaceutical research and development setting, including establishing process and procedure related to execution of key deliverables, establishing metrics for success, and onboarding and training direct reports.
Experience leading large-scale initiatives involving technology, business process, and change management in a pharmaceutical research and development setting
Experience successfully leading matrix teams of subject matter experts from diverse disciplines (e.g., scientific, quantitative, regulatory, process optimization, communications, change management)
Experience leading and managing a team of program & project managers
