Job Description:
Where you fit in
Shell’s ambition to become a leading player in offshore wind is progressing and with several sites into development and moving towards real projects and FIDs, assurance and expertise is required to understand wind specific risks and opportunities from the industry and bring that to our projects. This is done by various consultants. However, seeing confidentiality of many of these projects and the challenges of exchanging knowledge between various Joint ventures, a Senior Offshore Wind Technical Manager will be recruited to support the various projects in Shell’s portfolio to identify key risk, support key decision making, enable portfolio growth and act on behalf of Shell in the various DRB’s and technical advisory committees.
This person will furthermore provide strategic steering and coach various employees on the specifics of offshore wind, and where needed will support projects and work alongside project teams.
He or she will be providing technical oversight throughout Shell’s offshore wind portfolio (tenders & leasing rounds, acquisitions, design, development and execution planning) ensuring decisions, interfaces and outcomes meet project-specific requirements now and towards innovative approaches for the future. The ideal candidate has hands on and significant technical and project management experience across the full range of offshore wind disciplines and can therefore act as the highest technical assurance for many of decisions that require sponsor review.
The role holder will use their extensive experience in offshore wind developments, network, and stakeholder management to drive technical due diligence, bid preparation and sign off of project assumptions, and provide technical support as part of internal FID processes. The role will also have a focus on innovation, ensuring new designs or techniques are applied to Shell offshore projects, maintaining commercial competitiveness and breaking new markets. The role holder has a responsibility to ensure Shells competitiveness is maintained, including representing business interests at senior levels during partner negotiations, acquisitions and exploration of new markets.
The key focus area will be on acquisition, initial development, design and construction of offshore wind farms, flagging risks and working with the various project and leadership teams to come up with mitigation measures and solutions.
Shell is growing its Renewable Generation and offshore wind portfolio through development of new business opportunities or buy into projects and assets. Particularly in NW Europe, but also in new markets such as the US and APAC regions, the market is increasing in size and competitiveness. With this maturation, the landscape is changing and will require a fresh look on project development, both technically and commercially.
Opportunities will be developed in partnerships; with different types of partners (including contractors) and different delivery models. Interplay between (project) financing requirements, changing project ownership, supplier agreements, operational trading requirements, and risk appetite of these various stakeholders, will all have an influence on the project execution strategy.
What’s the role?
You will have the responsibility to:
Act as one of the highest technical authorities in offshore wind, assuring key technical design decisions.
