Work you’ll do
The Research Manager will manage a team of analysts in the Banking & Capital Markets sector of the Center for Financial Services (“the Center”), part of the firm’s Research & Insights group. The candidate will report to the Banking & Capital Markets sector research leader. The candidate will be a hands-on research writer/author, and will also help manage the operations/workflow of the Banking and Capital Markets research team.
The Center’s Banking & Capital Markets sector team is responsible for creating high-quality content for use by end-clients (banks, capital markets institutions, securities broker dealers, market infrastructure players, wealth managers, etc.) and our client service professionals in the Banking & Capital Markets practice. This content can come in the form of research reports, articles and features, client presentations, webcasts and podcasts, blog posts, etc. These deliverables integrate information from a wide range of primary and secondary sources, including surveys, modeling and forecasting, text analysis, case studies, third-party research and databases, analyst reports, government publications, industry commentaries, and news articles.
The Banking & Capital Markets Research Manager’s key responsibilities are to:
Bring a strong understanding of and previous research experience addressing substantive issues facing the banking and capital markets industry
Lead idea generation to ensure research agenda addresses future industry challenges
Lead complex quantitative and qualitative data analysis, case study development, survey design and analysis, and senior executive interviews
Familiarity with research and statistical tools such as Tableau and SPSS, as well as banking industry-related data sources
Manage critical project management processes for the Banking and Capital Markets team, including project workflow, resources, milestones, proposal development, copyright and other permissions;
Develop presentations summarizing insights and recommendations to brief executives and practitioners at the internal and external events, Play a leading role in developing and nurturing the talent of the Banking and Capital Markets research team, including working with the Center Director to determine assignment of tasks to provide development opportunities, and providing timely feedback and coaching to more junior team members on their work
Build effective working relationships with subject matter experts within the firm and the external marketplace, which includes both interviewing and information-gathering, as well as presenting draft work for feedback
Work collaboratively with practice leadership and other teams (marketing professionals, knowledge management, PR, client service professionals, etc.) to prepare thought leadership deliverables
New York or Boston location base preferred.

Qualifications
Required
Undergraduate degree
At least 10 years professional experience in banking, capital markets, or at research/professional services firms serving the banking industry. A solid understanding of the banking industry is a must
Solid writing skills; a track record in publishing (press, academic journals, or business reports such as equity or risk analysis) highly desirable
Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to think creatively, generate research ideas, and solve research problems
Passionate about developing ahead of the curve provocative thinking
Demonstrated project management experience and experience managing a team are a must
Self-starter, independent thinker and resourceful, and competency to work with distributed team members when necessary
Strong people skills that create strong relationships and credibility to both influence executive-level strategic thinking and create demand for new research initiatives
Solid presentation skills
Collegial and team-oriented in approach
Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Preferred
Master's degree, MBA or CFA
Have exposure to and training in analytical/statistical methods and interpretation of statistical results; preferred experience in survey design and with statistical software tools such as SPSS®
Strong candidates will also be familiar with data visualization software such as Tableau
