A project manager is the one responsible for project planning and setting a time frame for each project and seeing it through. Management skills are vital for this role; there are a lot of responsibilities you will carry including coordinating with your team to collaborate with clients and company stakeholders. The project manager can handle one or more projects in one time frame. He or she should see to it that all the projects are in the right track and proceeding smoothly. The project manager is an expert in multitasking. He or she cannot prioritize one project over another. The projects must receive equal attention.



A project manager must have an eye for detail, one of the attributes of a successful PM. He or she should look for a team with different levels and abilities to make the project successful and complete it before or on time. He or she should make the team know about the project, how it should be done, and be able to designate each team member accordingly. A project manager is responsible for the budget allocations and planning.

The project manager should also be cordial with his team and other members of the organization and their clients. His or her presence should represent a link between them. He or she should communicate with the team and the client and whenever there is a problem, a good project manager is always ready to hear or resolve the issue. Regular meetings with the team are essential, discussing ways to improve efficiency, and preparing and presenting reports regarding the status of the project.

It is the project manager’s job to check and monitor the progress of the team and the project as a whole. He or she should drive and motivate team members to be more efficient and productive. Lastly, the project manager should conduct meetings to discuss the results after the project is finished. He or she should point out factors that delay or make the project succeed and make it a reference in the future or avoid things that create delays or problems.

A project manager should be skilled in the following areas:

Finance management
Oral and written communication
Problem solving
Information technology
Creating solutions when problems arise
Leadership attributes
Development and business

A project manager must be aware of the following work conditions:

1. Working late to meet project deadlines
2. Sitting for long periods of time
3. Traveling to meet branch personnel or clients
4. Should be physically strong to handle multiple tasks
5. Should be alert and proficient in computer operations
